SWANS CLUB NOTES: "The Aussie Ruler" September 18, 1966 - No. 21
Our win in the vital second semi at Leeton last Sunday, and in its decisive nature, boosted our premiership hopes considerably.
The important victory was achieved by a grand team effort, brilliantly led by coach Kevin Kirkpatrick, who was right back to his best.
Our ever-reliable defender, Sid Robins, had the better of the two highly rated opponents; Len Sexton turned on a 1964 effort, and others to show out were John Foley, Bill Biron and Mal Russell.
Our 3rd XVIII did not play up to expectations and went down to Narrandera by 12 points.
The lads, however, had not had a game for six weeks, and if they ever get over Turvey Park today - hope to reverse last Sunday's result in the final.
Bob Prenzel was by far our best player, but received poor support from most of the others top players, and we will need a much better team effort today.
It was a pleasure to see the good, consistent interpretations of umpire Gambetta and Pilgrim at Leeton. What a boom it would be to get umpires like them each week.
All players and club members extend sincere sympathy to the parents and family of Ron Kendall, who was so tragically killed in Wagga last Saturday.
