GRIFFITH NOTES: "The Aussie Ruler" September 20, 1970 - No. 23
By Swan: Sunday the 13th proved to be a black day for the Swans when our premiership hopes received a big jolt with all three "premiership" teams being eliminated in the preliminary final.
The losses were disappointing, but we have had a good, long run up near the top and after all, you can't win them all, not that our premiership tally is very impressive.
We have, however, had a successful season and can look to 1971 with some confidence.
We expect to lose a few players, although most of our more senior players, including Frank Conlan, Bill Tyndall and Bill Biron, who rated amongst our best on Sunday, have continued to show good form and who knows just who will be missing when the footie starts getting kicked around next year.
Being an ex-Coolamonite, I must favour the Hoppers to win today and accomplish the "Green" hat trick of premierships in this and adjacent leagues - Army (Central Riverina), Holbrook (Farrer and Coolamon.
The Bulldogs, however, will not submit easily and today's big game could be a thriller and a fitting climax to a successful season for the SWDFL.
Best of luck to all team today and congratulations to the trophy winners who will do their lap of honour today.
